Shur Farms Frost Protection® has over 20 years of experience in frost protection science and cold air removal technology.  It designed and installed the first North American cold air drainage system in the late 1990s and began manufacturing and marketing the Cold Air Drain®, in 2001.  Since then, it has installed hundreds of systems protecting thousands of acres, making it the leader in cold air removal.  Ongoing advancements to the powerful Cold Air Drain® have made it the most fuel efficient, quiet, and cost effective method of active frost protection available. Crops currently being protected by our systems include almonds, apricots, apples, avocados, blueberries, cherries, citrus, grapes, peaches, pluots, plums, and walnuts.  

Understanding that no two frost areas are the same, Shur Farms® maintains a team of Frost Analysts, in addition to the Product Development team.  The Frost Analysts create computerized frost evaluations specific to each unique growing area.  Satellite imagery, three dimensional terrain modeling, airflow mapping, and growers’ frost history are incorporated into the customized frost protection system designs.  Results include single or multiple frost protection methods, passive measures, and recommendations to optimize the growing area.  Site visits are scheduled as necessary. 

In addition to advancing modern frost protection and working directly with orchards and vineyards, Shur Farms Frost Protection® is highly visible within the agricultural community and growers groups.  Dedicated to promoting accurate information, Shur Farms® may be found making frost protection and “green” technology presentations, teaching frost protection seminars, or assisting growers with local or regional frost related issues.
